The Springboard Curriculum. Inclusive Special Education in the Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1.
The Springboard Curriculum empowers educators to move pupils beyond their current level of development by focusing on the most important aspects of teaching and learning; pupil centred playful interactions, a fun and motivating environment and meaningful assessment.
The Springboard Curriculum was developed and is being successfully used in a UK local authority school for preschool and key stage 1 pupils with severe, complex and profound learning needs. It shares more than 80 photos of teaching and learning in action.
An educator is anyone who actively engages in playful interaction with a pupil to enhance the pupil's experiences of the world. Teachers, therapists and parents all have this opportunity. Educators working together get the best results. The Springboard Curriculum integrated therapy and educator to guide educators to work collaboratively to change children's lives. The easy to use framework allows educators to use their time creatively to maximise play and tailor the learning activities to the strengths and challenges of each pupil.
Learning is a neurological process that begins with pupils using their senses to interact with their environment. By optimising the multi-sensory environment and through active participation in fun and meaningful activities, a pupil's world expands. Evidence of learning is gathered over time to capture small but significant development to inform individualised educational and therapeutic planning. Assessment focuses on understanding the individual and what is important for their lifelong learning.
